Rebuild of the MV and LV power network in Bolewice, Siercz, Bukowiec, Panowice, Międzychód, Nowa Niedrzwica, Przytoczna and Zielomyśl

For PIWOWARSKI P.S.A. we rebuilt the power network across eight villages: an MV cable line in 3×NA2XS(F)2Y 1×150/25 mm² with a route length of 5,606 m, plus around 550 m of directional drilling and pipe jacking with SRS Ø160 ducts. Works ran from mid-December to the end of March; value: PLN 486,120 net.

The task

One contract, eight villages

PIWOWARSKI P.S.A. of Sękowo near Nowy Tomyśl is a contractor working in the power sector. This was our second job for them, following straight on from the Bolewice cable line completed in December 2024.

BIGBUD carried out for PIWOWARSKI P.S.A. the task „Przebudowa sieci elektroenergetycznej SN i nn w miejscowościach: Bolewice, Siercz, Bukowiec, Panowice, Międzychód, Nowa Niedrzwica, Przytoczna i Zielomyśl” — rebuild of the MV and LV network in these eight villages — consisting of an MV cable line with a route length of 5,606 m and around 550 m of directional drilling and pipe jacking.

Period: 16 December 2024 – 28 March 2025, i.e. practically the whole winter season. The villages lie on the border of the Greater Poland and Lubuskie voivodeships, which meant several dispersed work fronts.

How the works went

Several work fronts, one schedule

The typical course of a multi-village network rebuild, mapped to the scope in the reference letter.

  1. 01

    Splitting into sections

A contract spanning eight villages is divided into work sections so that outages affect as few customers as possible for as short a time as possible.

  2. 02

    Drilling and jacking — ~550 m

Under roads, driveways and obstacles, directional drilling and pipe jacking was carried out, with SRS protective ducts of 160 mm diameter installed in the bores.

  3. 03

    MV cable line — 5,606 m

The 3×NA2XS(F)2Y 1×150/25 mm² cables were laid in trenches and pulled through the ducts in the bores, respecting bending radii and leaving slack at jointing points.

  4. 04

    Connections and acceptance

After the accessories are fitted, the lines are tested, and the as-built documentation and geodetic survey go to the client.

Technology

NA2XS(F)2Y, SRS ducts and winter working

A general explanation of the solutions named in the reference letter.

What NA2XS(F)2Y 1×150/25 means

A German-system designation: N — standard cable, A — aluminium conductor, 2X — XLPE insulation, S — copper screen, (F) — longitudinally water-tight, 2Y — polyethylene sheath. 150/25 is the conductor and screen cross-section in mm². How it compares with XRUHAKXS: MV cables.

Drilling vs pipe jacking

Directional drilling steers the drill head along a planned, curved path and suits longer crossings. Pipe jacking is a straight crossing under an obstacle — such as a road — driven from a launch pit. Both install a protective duct without digging up the surface. More: How directional drilling works.

Building through the winter

A December-to-March contract needs weather-aware planning: protecting trenches, fitting accessories in suitable conditions and respecting the manufacturer's minimum cable-laying temperatures. The reference letter confirms the works were completed on the agreed dates.

What this project shows

A dispersed contract is a logistics job

Rebuilding the network across eight villages is different from one long route. Machinery, materials and crews have to move between locations, and each one is effectively a small site of its own, with its own road crossings, agreements and reinstatement. Our own transport, including an HDS truck for cable drums, cuts the time spent moving between them.

Around 550 m of drilling and jacking on a 5,606 m route means that nearly one metre in ten passed under an obstacle without an open trench. That is why we drill with our own rig — more on our horizontal directional drilling page and in our equipment overview.

This was our second contract for PIWOWARSKI P.S.A., started just four days after we finished the Bolewice line.

  • 8 villages, one schedule
  • 5,606 m of MV cable line, ~550 m of trenchless crossings
  • second contract for the same client
„The above-mentioned works carried out by BIGBUD Sp. z o.o. were performed properly, in accordance with good construction practice, on the agreed dates and without defects.”
